If you're looking for an easy going day in a tiny town, visit Pisa. Our tour guide taught us a lot about the history of Pisa and the Leaning Tower, but afterwards we just had some pizza and took crazy pictures. In our discussion of the area's architecture our tour guide told us that the Ancient Romans would give columns as a sign of friendship, which really stood out to me.
