Roman Holiday: Mouth of Truth

Photobucket

One of the most iconic films shot in Rome is Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn. Today I got to go to the La Bocca della Verità ("the Mouth of Truth") where a famous scene in the movie was shot. The actual statue, carved from Pavonazzetto marble, is a man-like face, located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.

Getting lost in Testaccio along the river with my best friend Jackie O. I can't stop obsessing over Roma grafitti! Everywhere we turn there's more, which is frowned upon by the Roman government, but I think all the paint gives the city character. Make sure you check out Jo's blog Between the Verses for more of our Roman adventures.

Location: Via Portuense and Via Ippolito Nievo

The only market opened on Sundays (6:30am-2pm), this is the main flea market in Rome held a few stops away from where we live. Starting with lace table cloths and leather bags, this open market contains just about anything. Clothing is in piles for 1 euro or 50 cents, while records and costume jewlery gets a little more expensive. Pretty much planning on going every Sunday to explore/people watch/buy everything.

Looking Up

So much of my time in Rome has been spent looking up. Rome was once one of the world's main epicentres of classical architecture. Even the most amazing buildings have been turned into bars and restaurants, which makes going anywhere fun.

Today felt like the first day of fall, which made me feel like going for a walk, which made me feel like taking photos, in black & white.

I can't stop listening to the new RHCP album, and if you don't have it or hate it then you're missing out on life.

Our first bbq was a success! Special thanks to Niranjan for turning 20/giving us a reason to have people over. After re-arranging some furniture, searching for charcoal, and marinating some skewers, we had a fun night and some delicious food. Can't wait to host our next party...which will probably be soon because we have some more birthday's coming up!

We found this amazing wall while we were getting lost in Testaccio. One of the things I loved about it was seeing it at night. Always on the lookout for some crazy street art.

Down the street from my apartment there is an open fresh food market that is open until 1pm. Today Michelle and I walked down the market and got fresh pasta, olives, and veggies for lunch. I also bought a ring (I will post it soon). The market reminded me of the swap meets in Southern CA. Can't wait to get ALL of my food there :)
