Just Kids

Just Kids is Patti Smith's account of being 20 years old and living in NYC as an artist in the late 60's. MUST READ.. I can't put it down. From GoodWill to bookstores to Myrtle Avenue to Paris, this autobiography illustrates Patti's artistic, bizarre world.

"For life is the best thing we have in this existence. And if we should desire to believe in something, it should be a beacon within. This beacon being the sun, sea, and sky, our children, our work, our companions and, most simply put, the embodiment of love." -Patti Smith

Love Adorned

"Love Adorned – a lifestyle concept store from New York Adorned’s Lori Leven – expands beyond fine jewelry to include smart tools for home, body and travel. The shop’s lovingly curated inventory addresses the shift away from ‘throw away culture’ with lasting solutions that bring ease and preserve beauty in our busy lives. For where strength exists in design and simplicity, it also is expressed through craftsmanship and quality; all key elements in the shop’s offerings."

This is a MUST see store. Filled with jewelery, art, apartment decor, and furniture, New York Adorned is one of a kind. The back of the store is actually a tattoo parlor, which is fronted by a very clean and industrial style. LOVE.

Are You Hungry?

Just read a great article in the WSJ about search engines for your kitchen! "The websites, which come up with recipes, are becoming more popular. The sites work like search engines: Users enter the ingredients they have and the results are recipes that make use of it all."

Walking over the Brooklyn bridge on Saturday was so beautiful, I couldn't help but go camera crazy! Good times with Rory, Jazzy, and Jackie in Williamsburg.. lots of vintage shopping and people watching. Got to love BK when it's nice out. Oh and do you see this mango?? $3 at the end of the bridge, can't beat it.

Keegan Exibit

Found this artist through Oracle Fox, and I love his blog! Keegan Gibbs was raised by the ocean, this aquatic biped found the best way to express his love of all things salt water, was through photography. When not shooting, his main goal is to surf as much as he possibly can on the quest to finding the hollowest tube, the longest wave, and the most crackable lip.

This very talented photographer recently had a really dope exhibition (see below). He is also behind some of RVCA's most recent images.

Of Our Youth - RETNA • EL MAC from RVCA on Vimeo.

"RETNA and EL MAC have teamed up for another mural, this time in Culver City. Their newest mural, titled Of Our Youth, can be seen on the side of Graphaids art supply store, on La Cienega between Jefferson and Washington.

The imagery and text used in this mural was inspired by their time spent at Skid Row, while painting their previous mural. The artists met a man by the name of Ralph Woodruff aka Chato and were inspired by this man’s past hardships, experiences and overall outlook on life. His ability to recognize his mistakes and atone for his sordid past was something that resonated with RETNA. The text which reads, “So today I’m trying to change a few things to rectify the situation of my past. So today I’m looking towards the future (of our youth highlighted)” is a quote taken from their conversation."-Vimeo, RVCA
